June - Picture Books

Reba is hosting June's meeting and here's what she had to say:

I thought it would be fun to discuss how picture books have changed within our lifetimes. I'd love it if everyone brought a favorite picture book (or two or five) from their childhood and one (or multiple ones) that they enjoy reading now.

And here's a quick wikipedia overview of the history of picture books

Suggested reading:

Noisy Nora (Rosemary Wells)
Hand Hand Fingers Thumb (Al Perkins)
King Bidgood's in the Bathtub (Don and Audrey Woods)
Where the Wild Things Are (Marcus Sendak)

Tanka Tanka Skunk (Steve Webb)
Scaredy Squirrel (Melanie Watt)
Bee Bim Bop (Linda Sue Park)
Knuffle Bunny (Mo Willems)

List your favorite picture books here and we'll compile a list to hand out at book club.

Hi, I am new to this blog today! I found it through a search on bloglines.

If it's ok, I will give you my list!

Where the Wild Things Are
The Princess and the Pea
The little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly

Now: (oh excitement! Too Many!

The Rattletrap Car by Phyllis Root,
A Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson,
Edwina the Emu by Sheena Knowles,
The Icky Sticky Frog by Dawn Bentley,
Lima and the Red Hot Chilli by David Mills,
Dirty Bertie by David Roberts,
Cock-a-moo-moo by Juliet Dallas-Conte.

There I shall stop myself!
By the way, I too love Noisy Nora, it has a great rhythm!
